Unbelievably inspiring. A must read for all Eagles fans but also for coaches and leaders. Pederson writes with an honest straight forward prose that makes you understand why his team believed in him as a coach that could lead a team to the Super Bowl after losing so many of its starting players to injury. Great anecdotes about Brett Favre and Andy Reid etc give you a good idea where his killer instinct and players coach temperament come from. And he takes a few of the unbelievers to task, which is always fun to read about!
I absolutely loved the book. Me being an Eagles fan didn’t color my perception of it. If I found it to be poorly written, an exercise in Ego, or simply nothing more than humdrum, I would state as much.Instead, I actually found it to be refreshing. Pederson doesn’t mince words on how he got to this point. He’s more than happy to explain his journey, giving both the highs and the lows that helped him get to a point of raising the Lombardi Trophy in triumph. In addition, he came from a strong Christian background, and Faith is very important to him. He’s not even remotely squeamish about discussing his faith, and touches on it quite often throughout the book.If you think that Faith and Football don't mix, don't bother with this one.He's also quite blunt about Football only being part of his life, not the entirety of his life, and he specifically discusses that very notion near the end of the book. While Pederson's body of work has yet to even approach theirs, I couldn't help but conclude that he's echoing a philosophy that was quite similar to the likes of Vince Lombardi, Chuck Noll and Bill Parcells, in that while their particular area of expertise was Football, the sport of Football was only a part of their Life's Work. I believe that espousing that particular philosophy played a large part in driving the latter three to the ridiculous success they achieved.The book is straight-forward, getting to the point. There’s no flowery speech to be found. Pederson doesn’t use 25 words when 10 will do. I’d imagine that if we were to encounter Doug Pederson behind closed doors, what is written wouldn’t be too different from what we’d experience.I highly recommend it.
Fearless is Eagles Coach Doug Pedersons ' story of how the Eagles became Super Bowl Champs. This is an inspirational story from the ultimate underdog team and its coach. Pederson spent 14 seasons in the NFL as a backup q.b. and was cut 6 times in his career. In the NFL he was never a star but he was surrounded by both players and coaches who were. He was a backup to Brett Favre on a Super bowl winning team and both a player and assistant coach under Andy Reid in Philadelphia and Kansas City. He spent time with the Dolphins with Dan Marino and Don Shula. Being surrounded by talented and knowledgable football people made him the person and the winning coach he is today. Pederson is a humble, admirable man who coached High School Football upon retirement, he is also a faithful family man who seems to posses a non-quitting spirit. In this book he explains his risk taking coaching philosophy and how the Eagles who were the underdog in every playoff game became champs. You don't have to be a Football fan or an Eagles fan to appreciate this inspiring story. Recommended.
Doug Pederson is an inspiration for people who are always underestimated and underrated. The way Doug Pederson and the eagles adopted emotional intelligence over anything else is a testament to their success. Emotional intelligence is such a crucial soft skills to posses in today's world.This book won't teach you that. It just emphasizes why it's important.
This author came across as sincere in this book. I enjoyed the behind the scenes look at how Pederson manages the Eagles. Although I think he stated this may be his only book, I'd certainly read another of his. It's a great read for any Eagles fan or anyone interested in leadership or coaching. 5 stars.
I'm an Eagles fan, so I may be biased...but I highly recommend this book. It brings out coach Pederson's real thoughts and true motivation. He's just a regular guy who wants the best for himself, his family, and his team. Solid read!
This book was fantastic. I was a bit hesitant as I first started reading it, as I am a Bears fan and the eagles pumuled the bears in 2017. Doug Pederson has some great things to say with him playing behind guys like Brett Favre and Dan Marino, and playing for coaches like Don Shula and Mike Holmgren. He also comes from the never ending coaching tree of Andy Reid. This book portrays the fantastic work ethic of Pederson, and the Eagles organization as a whole.

The author of The Millionaire Mind and The Millionaire Next Door has certainly stumbled onto a great idea: He's become rich by selling his books, written in pseudo-scientific jargon, how rich people live and think based essentially on their self-reported answers to surveys. Actually, that description is a little simplistic, but not far off. I've read both books and they are somewhat interesting for their insight (most multi-millionaires are very, very different from the celebrity trash we all see on t.v.). However, anyone with a very basic knowledge of statistics and a practical understanding of basic psychology or human nature will have a problem with some of the conclusions that the author alludes to. Such as: People who have their shoes repaired rather than throwing them away, people who have strong religious backgrounds, and people who avoid do-it-yourself home-improvement are more likely to become millionaires. The author frequently makes leaps to conclusions without really analyzing the causal connection. He also relies too heavily on self-reported answers to his surveys. Sure, the deca-millionaire is going to tell you "hard work", "honesty", and "charity" are important to "being successful." But he's not going to necessarily advertise that "off-shore tax evasion", "sticking it to the working class" and "having blue-blood parents" doesn't hurt the balance sheets either. It sometimes seems like the author was born yesterday. One last complaint: The books could be reduced to around 50 pages if all the hokey anecdotes were edited out. They don't add much and almost insult the intelligence of the reader ("To tell you how important it is to save money, let me tell you about Mr. Moneybags and how he saved money and thus accumulated money."). Overall, to be clear, these books are worth reading, but I'd borrow them from a friend (or library) and save your money.
This book was not at all what I was expecting, but contains some good advice that many would benefit from. For some background, my wife and I are relatively young and have career jobs. I bought this book for information on making the most of any extra income, learning more about investing strategies, options for generating passive income, and improving my personal finances. I did learn a few things, but not on these topics (maybe a bit on the last point). The book primarily focuses on interesting finds and anecdotes from the authors' years of research on millionaires in America.The book is divided into eight chapters:1. Meet the Millionaire Next Door2. Frugal Frugal Frugal3. Time, Energy, and Money4. You Aren't What You Drive5. Economic Outpatient Care6. Affirmative Action, Family Style7. Find Your Niche8. Jobs: Millionaire vs. HeirsThe author essentially splits everyone into two categories: Underaccumulators of Wealth (UAWs) and Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth (PAWs). UAWs have a low net worth relative to income, and the opposite for PAWs and uses these terms throughout the book.His primary argument is that PAWs get to be wealthy by living well below their means - these are people who do not look like millionaires, they live in modest neighborhoods, drive domestic sedans, wear a Timex, and usually have a blue-collar job that does not come with an expensive lifestyle associated and as a result can accumulate a sizeable nest egg. On the other hand, UAWs are typically well-educated professionals with high paying and high profile jobs (doctors, attorneys), but due to societal pressures associated with their social standing are forced to squander all their money living in luxury neighborhoods, driving German cars, and sending their kids to private schools. Their expensive lifestyle means that they spend most of their income and as a result have a low net worth, despite outward appearances.I agree that this is good advice for just about anyone: live below your means and prioritize financial security over social standing. Growing up in a single-income family living in a modest middle class neighborhood, I'm quite used to the live-below-your-means philosophy and I think it gave me at least some sense of good financial discipline. If my parents are any indication, it works great.Where the authors really lost my interest is that the rest of the book is chock full of anecdotes and some rather uninformative statistics to drive a few other points home. While some of these are good points and undoubtedly useful, they always seem to come with caveats or don't draw any real conclusion, which I found frustrating. Most of the points could have been made succinctly in about 1/10 the amount of page space the authors dedicate to them. These include:- Most millionaires in America are self employed business owners, because they run their personal finances like their business finances. However, going into business for yourself is very risky so we don't really recommend that as a viable way to get rich.- Very few millionaires have ever spent much money on a nice suit, pair of shoes, or luxury watch. They usually live in modest neighborhoods or rural areas where the cost of living and social pressures of consumerism are lower.- First generation millionaires (often immigrants) tend to be succeeded by children with financial struggles, since the parent's desire to "give them a better life" pushes them into careers where they become UAWs, and their upbringing in our consumerist culture impedes their ability to live frugally. But even if it turns them into UAWs, encourage them to go to college and aspire to a while-collar professional job.- Parents giving money to their children develops and reinforces poor financial habits. This money is almost always immediately spent, and these children generally have no savings since they are looking to their parents as their safety net and counting on an inheritance. Doing things like buying children a house in an upscale neighborhood or sending grandkids to a private school actually makes the children worse off, since they have to spend more to maintain the associated lifestyle.- The authors spend an inordinate amount of time and space comparing different careers, which I found next to useless since I'm very happy with my chosen career (Engineer) and have no intention of changing. They continually deride pretty much every professional job you can think of, and simultaneously praises how great working for yourself or owning a business is while going on about how difficult and risky it is to actually own a successful business. The author does not recommend changing careers, but again, this is more of a discussion of what their research has shown than any sort of "how to" advice.- Car buyers fall into four categories: whether you buy new or used, and whether you buy from the same place or shop around. The authors devote an entire chapter to this while only coming to the following conclusions: no method of buying a car is the clear winner, but if you own a business you may benefit from your connections with the owners of car dealerships; and most millionaires drive unassuming domestic (and to a lesser extent, Japanese) cars purchased new or lightly used.A final note - curiously, I found no mention of anything real-estate related, which to me is highly unusual in any sort of book about building wealth. The only investment advice found here is in the final chapter and could be summarized as "invest in what you know." That is, if you work in a certain sector, your knowledge of the industry will help you make good investment decisions. Not sure how I feel about this one. For example: not working in technology doesn't mean blue-chip tech stocks are a bad investment. Take it with a grain of salt.One last complaint: most of the financial figures are presented in mid-1990s dollars. I found it frustrating to have to mentally convert to today's dollars to get a relative sense. The authors took the time to update the preface in 2010, it would have been nice to see a revision to the figures quoted throughout the book. (For reference, one 1996 dollar is worth about 1.6 dollars in 2017).In summary, I was surprised about the amount of praise heaped on this book. I would hardly categorize it as a self-help book, it's more a retrospective on the authors' research and a collection of anecdotes and interesting conclusions about the countless Americans leading unglamorous lives while accumulating appreciable amounts of wealth. It's a quick read and I made it through the whole book on a 5-hour flight with time to spare. I would only recommend this book as an interesting overview of some good financial habits, or as an eye-opener for those with luxurious financial tendencies who struggle to save money despite their income level. However, for those who have already developed some discipline and are looking for detailed strategies and advice on personal finance and building wealth via investments and generating passive income, look elsewhere.
This is such an inspiring read because it shows almost anyone can become a millionaire if you live below your means and invest well. I love that the majority of millionaires are people you'd never suspect because they don't live flashy lives in big houses with high-status toys abounding. If you make $200,000 a year, but spend $220,000, you're in trouble. But if you make $50,000 a year and live on $35,000, investing the rest, over time you're going to be in great shape.I grew up in a super-affluent suburb. My friends' lived in big houses and mansions with luxury cars and country club memberships. We lived in one of the smallest houses in the suburb. My mom was so frugal. I thought it was such a drag!! But when she died (too young), she'd saved enough so that my dad, who lived another 30-some years, was comfortable in retirement. I wonder now if any of my high school friends' parents were actually living on the edge in trying to keep up with the Joneses.Years ago, I used to charge like crazy. Now I save like crazy, just like my mom.

HVAC/R certification and competency tests are directed toward students and technicians at all skill levels. The National Certification Competency Exams are being offered by many organizations, including Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI), North American Technician Excellence (NATE), Refrigeration Service Engineer Society (RSES), and the ESCO Institute (HVAC Excellence). Guide to the HVACIR Certification and Competency Tests, 2E is designed to help students and technicians pass competency and certification exams. The book is divided into three parts: a Study Guide, Questions, and Answers. This guide covers: System Components and Tools, Electrical Theory and Application, Airflow Components and Duct Fabrication, Indoor Air Quality and Safety, and Commercial Refrigeration and Hydronic Heating. The Questions and Answers sections cover one additional topic: Service and Troubleshooting. The student/technician will benefit most by reading the Study Guide first. Then, the student should turn to the Questions for the related statement. For example, the first statement in question 1 of "System Components and Tools" under Hand Tools reads, "A torx driver has a star shaped head and is used on torx type screws." The student would then turn to the same section in the Questions and try to answer question 1. In Section 4 of the Study Guide, an EPA Certification Study Guide has been provided to assist the student in successfully passing Type I, II, III, and Universal Recover/ Recycle Certification Examinations. His investigation opens a window on Holocaust survivors, collaboration, and vengeance.Before the 1961 Adolf Eichmann trial, many Israelis poorly understood the experience of European Jews who had survived the Shoah, and the survivors rarely spoke about their experiences.Some Israelis—sabras, “nativesâ€â€”felt that European Jews had been too weak and compliant in the face of oppression. The “new Zionist man†would show the world that Jews couldn’t be pushed around. Survivors felt differently, of course. There had been little they could do, and there were few Gentiles willing to help.After the war, radicals began targeting Nazi officers and camp guards for assassination because the Allies were doing relatively little to bring the perpetrators of genocide to justice. This the background leading up to the Mossad’s capture of Eichmann in 1960. The radicals also took a dim view of European Jews whom they felt had collaborated with the enemy: the Judenrat (ghetto police), Kapos (concentration camp supervisors), even musicians forced to play in camp orchestras.Dunsky uses this mix of survival, collaboration, and vengeance as the background to The Auschwitz Violinist, which is the third Adam Lapid novel. On the whole, he does a good job. I will note, however, that when Dunsky introduced a particular character in particular, I had a premonition he would turn out to be the bad guy. And I was right. I can’t say whether this was because I have read too many mysteries or because Dunsky telegraphed the ending unwittingly. Probably the former.So, three stars for The Auschwitz Violinist from me, but it’s still a page-turner, and I look forward to the fourth novel in the series.
If I loved all the Adam Lapid books, this one triggered a lot of thoughts in me.It made it clear that the Jewish world is a kaleidoscope. I knew this of course,but to know and to realise are different things. this book gives us a magistral lesson in history and human reactions to horror and to the victims of horror. I met many different Jews in my 73 years on this earth, in France, Canada, Australia, the US and of course Israel, some even in india. I was most fascinated by those I met as a kid, who had gone through the October revolution in Russia, escaped to Paris, had to flee to Spain or Cuba or the US or ended up in camps during WWII, some who survived came back to Paris. Reading this book makes me understand much better the way these old guys reacted to my naive questions about these numbers ontheir arm. And also why some of my friends who were relatives of those with numbers on their arm clammed up when I enquired. There is more to it but this is not the place to elaborate. the point is that we deal with a book that goes well beyond being a detective story, it has as I pointed out historical value, as well as psychological insight. With all due respect for Agatha Christie, Simenon and others, this book has another dimension. Of course one can ignore it and appreciate only the "who dunnit aspect" which is sdufficiwent by itself to make this bvook a great detective story.
This is the third novel in the Adam Lapid series. Intrigue, revenge, justice, remorse, guilt -- all wrapped up in a very readable, believable story that manages to capture the horrors and cruelty suffered in camps like Auschwitz and yet displays the indomitable human spirit. Made me cry and cringe, but I couldn't put the book down!
I discovered this author quite by accident in one of the newsletters I receive. Serendipity! I was immediately hooked. I’ve since read two of his other books and will read however more there are. Set in the early years of Israel this is noir at its best. The author hooks the reader right in and does not let go until the very end. I highly recommend this book and this author.
How do survivors cope with their survival? This book has fascinating characters (most of whom are well enough developed to have their own book). It shows how they tried to pick up the pieces of their lives and move on. It also shows the darker side of the scars that they carry. Read it!
I love anything from WWII and this filled the bill. It was a fast moving story. One that didn't get tangled up in a lot of discreption or .lengthy detail but a good story line and mystery to keep you interested. I enjoyed it.
The auschwitz Violinist brings excellent insight into life in Israel sollowing statehood and identifies ongoing serious issues in a thrilling mystery. The vestiges of WWII are sell stated and prexcellent motivation to thee continuing emphasis on the holocost. the book brings in a number of lesser known details and is very well done

Fast forward and Dr. Fuhrman notes, on page 188, there has not been any diet with 'animal proteins' that has been proven to reverse heart (vascular) disease (CVD). Not true...Dr. K Lance Gould has multiple publications objectively demonstrating through PET scans the reversal of CVD through a diet which includes animal proteins. Gould worked with Dean Ornish on the very early cutting edge reversal of CVD through non-invasive measures, but, as he writes in his book felt Ornish's approach was too high in starchy carbs and felt vegetables, lean proteins and fruits (in that order) should be the lead foods for heart patients. In fact, one of Gould's early patients--Al Weatherhead--passed away only a few years ago after being given a death sentence in the 80s.Dr. William Davis has published, in PubMed, research showing his diet, which includes animal protein, the reversal of CVD _AND_ coronary calcification. In his book, Track Your Plaque, and, website Curereality, Davis also cites patients who have reversed their calcium score from the thousands to the hundreds. (As a side note, a cardiologist in Dallas, TX, in the 1990s, was sending his patients to a nutritionist, Cliff Sheats. The MD noted his patients had seen 100% reversal of CVD via Sheats' diet.)Third, Dr. Fuhrman advises against (or limiting) potatoes, however, they're included in Dr. Esselstyn's diet--which is advocated by Dr. Joel Kahn (a cardiologist and reviewer of Dr. Fuhrman's book. So, which is it...potato? Or no. And, I'm not aware of rampant levels of heart disease in societies where potatoes are a prime part of their diet? Even in the section on Dr. Esselstyn's diet, he doesn't fully address this.Fourth, Dr. Fuhrman works or appears with Dr. Mark Hyman who wrote Eat Fat, Get Thin. Hyman advocates moderate/low amounts of animal proteins, Saturated Fats, etc. Again, confusing since their approaches are opposite.Will continue to read the book, and, try to reach Dr. Fuhrman to provide the references regarding Gould and Davis.
I've been following Dr. Fuhrman since 2011, I have read all of his books, they are all great. This way of eating is the only way to protect yourself not only from Heat Disease but Cancer and Diabetes as well. If I can do it anyone can, you need to take control of your life, Dr. Fuhrman can lead you to water but you have to drink, You need to commit yourself to this way of eating for life. There are millions of recipes on the web as well as Dr. Fuhrman's web site. Lots and Lots of taste Plant based foods. Always make the Salad the main Dish, as Dr. Fuhrman says., all in all this is a Great Book, do as it says and beat the diseases of the Standard American Diet. I don't miss Meat at all, as I have cut it entirely out of my diet.
What I like about Fuhrman is he backs up his conclusions with scientific research and is not afraid to take on BIG FOOD. I use his dietary guidelines extensively in a weight loss and preventive health clinic and we are getting great results emphasizing a primarily plant-based diet. And at 69I am seeing some great personal health benefits as well. My weak criticisms are that much of his material is redundant between his books so youwill read much the same in End of Diabetes and Eat to Live, etc...As a former university team physician and Olympic Training Center volunteerphysician as well as highly skilled athlete, I also find Fuhrman, Hyman, Davis, McDougall, Campbell et al quite weak on exercise prescription. Mypatients have also commented that none of them look all that athletic; however, they look a lot better than the fat physicians I have observed atmeetings of the former American Society of Bariatric Physicians now the Obesity Medical Association. I think I have also unfortunately discoveredwhy these plant based proponents all write books, running a weight loss clinic is not very profitable. It is more a labor of love for me--unlike most weight loss physicians, we accept insurance (reimbursement sucks) and many insurers refuse to pay for 'obesity' as a principal diagnosis. So whenever a patient is unable to afford care or lives too far away or is a diabetic that has just learned from me they have peripheral neuropathy (Iperform up to 300 EMG's and nerve tests per month) I routinely recommend they purchase one or more of Dr. Fuhrman's books. I concur withhim that anyone following his dietary recommendations will become healthier and in fact may save their own life. Our clinic is duplicating his results--we are getting people off blood pressure pills, statins, and even insulin!
I love Fuhrman's latest book. I bought it because my child has a heart defect that predisposes him to coranary artery disease later in life and I want to do what I can to help him prevent that. I have been eating this way for 3 years. In that time, I have not been sick once. I am in my forties and I feel better than I did in my twenties. I lost 30 pounds the first three months and kept it off. I don't count calories and I maintain a bmi of 19. My blood pressure and cholesterol are excellent. It works!
