I am saddened this is the next to the last book. I have really been enjoying them.
After a rocky start, relations with her mother seem to be on an even keel and Melissa is keen for renovations to the extension to be finished soon so that her mother can move in and live with her on a permanent basis. In the meantime, the accommodation at the nearby retirement home is very good and her mother seems to have settled in for this short period.The apparent murder of a pet dog and then the sudden demise of its owner sets Sylvia off on a tangent, determined that foul play is amiss and Melissa is terrified that with her interference that if there is an actual murderer around, her mother is the one in most danger as she is stirring things up without realizing it. Initially skeptical, Melissa begins to think that something is amiss in the Home and that its inmates are not exactly what they seem.Like everyone else, people are hiding secrets. There are skeletons in the closet that no one wants anyone to find and there are those who are determined to keep them hidden.An old fashioned mystery murder, with slow detective work being laboriously followed up is this story. It does not mean it is boring though. Reminiscent of Miss Marple mysteries this was a good one.
Melissa is getting her one ready for her Mother to move in with her after Sylvia’s surgery. But while the renovation is ongoing Melissa finds a retirement home nearby until things are ready for Sylvia’s arrival. Unfortunately things aren’t as cozy as they seem at the retirement home when one of the residents and her dog both die.As Sylvia begins to learn more about her fellow residents, she comes to believe it wasn’t death, but murder in both cases. As Sylvia to determine which resident(s) might be guilty, it looks like Sylvia may have made herself a target.What a great discovery to find a series with 10 previous books to enjoy all at once. Love the setting and the Mother-daughter relationship. Truly relatable when you are caring for your own aging parents. No issues reading this book without having read the first 10 in the series, though I look forward to reading those as well.

I read all the books in this series and I loved them all.It's an amazing series and each book is better than the previous one.This one was no exception.The mystery was solid, it was great to meet again the cast of characters and read about their life, the setting as lovely as usual.Highly recommended!Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Wow, talk about a walk through nostalgia. Growing up in the 80's I can remember CLEARLY how my mom Demonized EVERYTHING. Smurfs, GI Joe, MASK--all of them--all demonic, tools of the devil. And don't get me started on her opinion of D&D.This collection of essays is fantastic. It should be required reading for EVERYONE so that we don't repeat history again.
I was born in 1988 so I missed out on most of the satanic panic that is discussed here. However, being the researcher that I am, and with so much information online, I became a bit of an expert. I had seen the Geraldo special, read and own all the so-called true stories of satanic rituals and abuse (The Satan Seller, Michelle Remembers, Satan's Underground, The Ultimate Evil, etc etc) and watched every McMartin/Kern County Prescool doc I could find. So none of this was particularly new to me. What's great is to have all these different subjects and more (D&D, horror paperbacks/movies, heavy metal music) presented in essay form from several different writers. I have to admit, for as much research as I did, I really hadn't looked into certain areas (Dungeon & Dragons) for lack of interest but even that essay kept my interest. Each piece works wonderfully it's own, but it's best to go from beginning to end. Possibly in one sitting, as I did.
It is about a bunch of different authors take and understanding of the so call satanic panic of the 1980's. It is interesting book and large print and pictures to give one fully understand of the drama of this era.
Really interesting collection of essays about different aspects of the Satanic Panic of the 80s and 90s. Some were, of course, better than others, but overall really interesting and gives some interesting perspectives on that phenomenon. The only drawback was, for me, that it wasn't as much as a "history of" as I would have liked, but that is just my own expectation, and not any actual flaw in the book.
Super interesting read and really hard to put down; I blew through it in about a day. Lots of very well-written perspectives.
Having lived through the 80s , seeing a lot of movies and bands from this era was a blast down memory lane

Someone did a lot of research to make this book. Very interesting to read and very thorough. Lots of pictures. It's a really cool book and a look into a era gone by. Ask your local library to order a copy if you would like to read the book. The book has lots of historical info.

These two authors are tops in the field of Trauma. This book was required for a doctoral level clinical psychology course in trauma. The book delivered as promised, however, maybe, just maybe there is a little over-kill or over saturation of material. I felt over whelmed at times with too much information coming at me at the same time. Even when chucking the information - there was a water hose on FULL FORCE of knowledge and information that obviously is needed when learning and serving victims of trauma. This book will serve you well in learning about and providing services for those affected by Trauma.
Got this for a class, it is easy to read and information. Recommended for all future clinician as trauma seems to be the basics for most psychological problems.
Started reading this in the Medical Library at UMass and was blown away how informative it was I had to purchase a copy for myself.
Excellent book for therapists. One of the other reviewers was disappointed because it was "written like a textbook", but this book is used as a textbook, so that makes sense. I've been a trauma therapist for 10 years, & I plan on using this book as a reference for years to come.
Excellent book. Well written and well edited, good current information.
The book does not compare with this psychologist tremendous energy she presents in person. We had her as a keynote speaker for a state convention and she was wonderful. Her book reads like a textbook. I am an experienced therapist and I can only read a little of the book at one time. She packed more information into an hour of keynote and then a workshop than I can get from the book. Very disapointing but I will use it for reference to specific situations with patients and that should be helpful.
While being addressed to therapists, this book provides excellent information regarding the experience of complex trauma useful for both trauma victims and family members.
