So far, David Baker's books in Haynes' "workshop manual" series have delivered the goods. His recent works on the Apollo 13 mission, NASA's Mars rovers, and the Russian Soyuz spacecraft have been well-rounded, highly detailed, and fairly readable as technical references. This book follows a similar format, the first section describing the basic principles of rocket science, propellants, and motors, the second providing histories of major launch vehicles from the German V-2 to the present day variants of the Atlas, Delta, and Ariane.As you might expect from a "workshop manual," this book is a straight-up, no BS technical reference. The main part of the text focuses on the development, inner workings, technological advancements, and variants of 20 well-known launch vehicles, including Vanguard, Ariane, Saturn, and Thor. As such, the text is rather richly detailed and best taken in small doses. There are dozens of detailed technical diagrams in here as well, along with many photographs of rockets being built, assembled for launch, launched, and of course, exploding. No doubt hardcore space buffs will find much to love here.Unfortunately, "Rocket" is a prime example of "what's here is good, BUT..." For a work billing itself as an "insight into the development and technology" of rockets and satellite launchers, an excessively large chunk of it is focused solely on early American launch vehicles at the expense of other nation's rockets. 89 pages are devoted to the Thor, Atlas, Titan, and Delta families, versus five for Soyuz, nine for Ariane, and only two for Proton. It ends up reading like the first book in a six-volume history that got scrapped by the publisher at the last minute, rather than a fully-fleshed reference book.If you already own David Baker's classic 1978 tome "The Rocket: The History and Development of Rocket and Missile Technology," you don't need to throw it away quite yet. As dated in parts as it may be, it delivers a much broader perspective and a much more readable narrative than this work. If specific impulses, expansion ratios, and Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine are part of your vocabulary, you might enjoy it, but it could have been so much more.
As a lifelong space geek and retired aerospace engineer, I really love books like this one.Dr. David Baker's magnificent volumes "The Rocket: The History and Development of Rocket and Missile Technology" (1978) and "The History of Manned Space Flight" (1982) remain the definitive technical and historical references in the field. This volume, "The Rocket: Owners' Workshop Manual," while nowhere near as comprehensive or, indeed, as weighty (in terms of pounds-mass) as the other two books, is still an excellent, if abbreviated, look at the subject. It's even very readable, for those readers who lap up techno-speak, and the hundreds of high-quality drawings and photographs add immensely to the text.I offer only one minor caveat--most of the book (about 130 of 188 pages) focuses on American rockets. Today, with the U.S. essentially turning its back on developing manned spacecraft (political lip service to the contrary notwithstanding), American rockets are only minor members of the truly international launch vehicle lineup that includes Soyuz, Proton, Ariane, Long March and others. With the demise of the Space Shuttle, Russia's Soyuz, a derivative of the original 1957 Soviet ICBM, is now the only way astronauts and cosmonauts can travel to the International Space Station. Soyuz' 60-year longevity is remarkable and unprecedented--yet it gets only a meager five pages of coverage. I'd like to see 10 times that amount.So, if you want details of the technical and operational histories of U.S. rockets, complete with many eye-watering engineering drawings and photos, "The Rocket: Owners' Workshop Manual" is a great choice for you. For similar information about the rockets of other nations, you may have to look elsewhere.

I know there's not a single joke in the book, but really, it's silly.Here's why: Salvatore explains -- and I agree with him -- that managerial economics really consists of synthesizing concepts from algebra, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, calculus, and economics, and applying them, basically, to the estimation of demand and to the evaluation of performance. That's fine.But if all this book did was show you that, it would only be 2-3 chapters in length. Therefore, to fill up the rest of the volume, the author proposes to teach you, from scratch, all of those topics. In one book. In one semester.Take Chapter 5, for example. Excepting the concept of standard deviation, this chapter is essentially an entire semester's worth of statistics in a single chapter. Explanations, unsurprisingly, are terse and elliptical. And ditto for many other aspects of the book: like I'm so sure the typical student can learn all of economics, algebra, etc. in a single chapter.There's an even worse problem with it, though.Salvatore is explaining and synthesizing ideas that are often grounded on concepts from calculus. But if he just put the calculus right there in the text, he would lock himself out of the non-calculus market.So what he does is puts the calculus in footnotes and appendices throughout the book.The result of this is that nobody's happy. Students who can do calculus don't get enough practice and explanation; students who can't do calculus feel there's conceptual holes in the middle of the explanations (just as Salvatore admits there are!).
It was the wrong book for my class. However, I ended up keeping it as the book was just different enough to give me and international perspective on the same issues that we were discussing in this class. It gets four stars because it is written in a way that seems it has all the answers, which no book has. However, it is not to hard of a read and is a fantastic place to start a journey in managerial economics.
I have read my share of text books. My undergrad degree was in engineering, but this book is by far the least explanatory text book that I have ever encountered. The text is really heavy on the definitions and theories. I get it, that stuff is important, but when it comes to applying those things the book just glosses over the details. The problems at the end of each chapter are not any better. I could not recommend this book to anybody. Though it does not matter much since students are not the ones that pick their text books.
OK....this book stinks! I only purchased it because it was required text for MBA program! The author does a poor job of explaining the materials. The illustrations and tables are labeled weird. The only saving grace is OXFORD has put a free online version of the book online that you use to help you study. You have to google search it to find it, but it was a good suppliment to accompany this poorly written book. Plus some of the question on the site are actual test questions that help a great deal when studying for the test.
Your professor did you know favors. Perhaps if you already have a good economics background this is fine, but if this is your first brush with it, the book is (at least to my mind) not straightforward or easy to learn from at all. I took it as part of an online class, and so I felt very set-adrift, indeed. Glad it's all over.
I received my book and it is totally messed up. The first half of the book wasnt even attached at the spine. The second half has a page thats all messed up. This is the worst rental i've ever had. I have to deal with it because of hurricane harvey we started right into things the first day of school, but i'm not impressed with my product at all.
Bought it for school, obviously would not buy for leisure.
Worst text book I've ever used, even worse than my tax accounting books for Advanced taxation. This book has every single thing you could ever need, but completely fails at explaining or even providing examples of the concepts discussed within the chapters. I have read Barry's Herobrine series (which is a great series) so when I saw this I had to get it. It was a great book, but personally I found it a little more confusing than the Herobrine series. And I also (there are spoilers here) disliked the way Cardan and Grober greeted each other in the end. After their argument I guess I expected a tense or more heartier greeting, especially after Cardan risked everything to save Grober, but instead they simply shook hands and said hi like they were never in danger. Anyway, all in all I loved this series, and if you love playing Minecraft and like reading a good adventure book, this is the book for you.
I mean i accidentally read the herobrine 17 book series first but as soon as u said about this one and it being your last book, i was heart broken. And if that series did tie some lose ends then good, although ibreally wanted to know what happened if tomfer came back and mes fohnd out. Hope mes is in trooooouuuuuble

I always try to have a look inside books before buying on Amazon . Before buying this Atlas , i compared it with DiFore , BRS Cell biology and histology , Wheater's and others . i was a little skeptical but after receiving the book i was glad to have chosen this one . The text is excellent with all the required basic histology as well as pertinent clinical implications. I also liked the diagrams , electron Scans and images . Some reviewers have said that the images are not as good as some other atlas but i dont agree with them . I have studied this Atlas in detail for understanding histology for USMLE exams and I didnt see any deficiency in the images , diagrams and Scans and it clarified my concepts of many things which i didnt know before despite passing Step1 and Step 2 Ck exams. For the first time it clarified my understanding of the structural and functional histology of Bone , hematopoiesis , lymphoid organs ( specially Lymph nodes and Spleen organization ) , Skin , Connective Tissues , and Cellular organelles like details of Ribosomes , mitochondria, golgi cisternae and the Roguh and smooth endoplasmic reticulum , though i had studied those chapters in other histology books and atlases . One thing i liked the most is the initial chapter of different types of Stains and Microscopies ( e.g Dark Filed , Light , Fluorescent , Scanning Electron , Transmission Electron etc ) and immunohistochemical techniques. That was the main thing which helped me in understanding the ways we study and interpret histological organization and details . The only complaint I have is with the ink used in the printing of the text . The text gets a little blurred if rubbed during reading with Sweaty hands , or some types of highlights but that is related to this book's quality of paper and ink and does not deduct any marks in terms of the knowledge and the beautiful images this book contains . The book is certainly thorough and long but i want to point out that almost every topic is repeated for most of its part in the details given under the images . Many times I crossed some of the repeated details ( though given from a little different angle from the main text ) under some of the images and figures . In one way it does prove to reinforce the concept given in the main text but after giving a thorough read to the whole book , you may decide to skip or cross some of the text given almost twice throughout the book . So in essence it has the effect of reducing the material you will read in the second read significantly , I will say at least one fifth to one fourth of the book . you can have a look inside the book on amazon and see it yourself by reading a topic .
I purchased this used for $18. For the price, it is an excellent book. I'm a laboratory technician working in research and trying to work in histology in mice. The information here, although human, still has importance for what I am working with, even if it isn't exactly the same organism. I was under the impression, though, that there would be more information about techniques and staining, which there is not. So I am pleased with the book for the price, but I am still on a hunt for something that discusses chemical reactions of stains and troubleshooting timing when something goes awry.
Wow, this is an excellent book. The level of detail is spot-on, the diagrams are some of the best I've seen, and the photographs are vivid, clear, and large enough to appreciate minor details. This was a great book for my coursework and a nice review resource for STEP 1 preparation.

This book has set the standard for histology, just even by the pictures alone. My professor uses them in his class lectures daily. The organization of the book is very logical in that it describes basic cellular and tissue structure prior to organizing systemically. I would recommend it for anyone studying histology.
I like this book a lot. It gives me more detail than I find in my anatomy book. I find that because it magnifies the subject matter closer, it allows me to learn anatomy and physiology better and quicker. Sometimes in a anatomy text it, the diagrams are not clear on the labeling due to the macro prospective of the book. In this book, it magnifies the subject matter, allowing for greater understanding of anatomy and physiology.
This text is one of the most valuable texts in my collection. The different types of pictures (electron microscopy, slides of H & E or silver stains, etc) encourages learning anatomy more in-depth. The picture and print quality is crystal-clear.The Junqueira's Histology text does an excellent job of teaching you about the human body because it ties anatomy and physiology concepts to actual pictures of cells and tissues. It is both an anatomy text and a microscopic histology text, all in one.Also, I found the concepts to be more up-to-date than most of my other so-called "current" anatomy and physiology texts.The book arrived promptly from the seller.
I'm taking a 400-level histology course at IU taught by Dr. Mescher himself. The book is extremely helpful in both lecture and lab -- I refer to definitions, explanations, and the like for lecture material and the extremely clear figures for the lab material. Especially being a beginner, I find the organized, step-by-step breakdown of each tissue very helpful and useful to me in my studies. In all honesty in a lot of my undergraduate courses I've bought the required book and barely looked at it the whole semester, but that is definitely not the case here. I take the book with me to class and refer to it during lectures & lab, and I use it as a crucial supplement to by studying of each tissue, organ, etc. Wonderful book, I highly recommend it!

Rather than a standard atlas - where the end of the page helpfully says "continued on map xx", this is organized alphabetically by town - and in many cases the map doesn't even hint at where you should look as your road runs off the page. Strangely, although owned by the same parent company - American Maps uses this poorly organized way, while Hagstrom Maps are easy to follow and use.
I will be vacationing in Connecticut in the near future and needed a detail map of the State. this will be of greatvalue.
