I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this new book. I love my instant pot and know that Audrey will have awesome recipes to add to my IP collection. The book is already exceeding my expectations! I’m making brownies in my IP. And possibly crack chicken for dinner tonight! I appreciate that Audrey kept the recipes simple as far as IP gadgets go. THE EBOOK IS NOT THE PEVEAR TRANSLATION! This is flagrant product misrepresentation by Amazon. They listed an e-book version of the PEVEAR translation and when I downloaded it and opened it on my device it is NOT the same translation as you can see in the peak inside of the printed version. You can find free online versions of this translation that Amazon is falsely selling as the PEVEAR translation in lots of places online. Amazon cheated!
As usual with Dostoevsky, the read is complex, even in this instance with the simplest of storylines - an old man ranting. The complexity comes from Dostoevsky's amazing ability to articulate the waves of thought behind human emotion - the flood and ebb of reasoning, the articulation of the irrational. But complexity extends well beyond style. Dostoevsky counters and buttresses contemporaneous philosophical thought using the rantings of his protagonist, "the underground man", the narrator. For those not familiar with Søren Kierkegaard and Nikolay Chernyshevsky (and here I admit my own ignorance) even a quick read of the short, but well done Wikipedia article on this title will be a very useful primer. Interestingly, the reviewer mentions that 'underground' is a flawed translation of the Russian and that 'crawl space' (my alternative) or something like it, might be more apt, implying; underneath the structure and within the loathsomeness of darkness, rats, snakes, spiders, and evil spirits.Part I "underground" overwhelms, tediously with rant, still, the reader comes away with a sense of the underground man's misery, frustration, and disgust at life. It is a pure rant with minimal structure. In part II "Apropos the wet snow" we are taken on a - years earlier - 'social encounter' of the underground man. It does not go well - in fact, the reader will now feel, compellingly, albeit without sympathy, the narrator's hatefulness.Dostoevsky's novels so overwhelm with depth and seriousness that other authors on the list of '100 greatest books' (which I am reading through) can seem well behind. In order NOT to be that reviewer who ‘gushes’ 5-stars at everything picked-up - and because this isn’t my favorite Dostoyevski novel I’ll give it 4-stars (but if my arm were twisted - even a little - 5! ;-).(translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, Publisher: Aegitas April 20, 2017)
The first part of the book is phenomenal and timeless. It speaks about how resentment is a part of human nature or maybe how humans will never be satisfied, that it is perhaps ontologically necessary that we cannot experience satiety or fulfillment. I’m not quite sure how to word it, but if you read it for yourself that would be cool, and then you could tell me what it is that I read. I thought the first part was an absolutely brilliant nsight into human natureThe second part is about an angry Russian guy being an angry (and especially miserable) Russian guy. It feels uniquely Russian. I found the second part hard to relate to—probably because I’m not a Russian from the 19th century. But the texture was vivid: I could feel like the spite and the cold wind. Dostoevsky does an amazing job of carefully invoking a vivid image (of something Russian.)
_Notes_ is long on thought and character, and short on incident.In the first (and shorter) part, there are literally _no_ incidents; it consists of a great deal of existential-ish philosophizing and critiquing of society (and of the personality of the narrator, who is never named). Even more, the narrator critiques contemporary scientific utopianism, insisting that, even if human nature were reduced to mathematics, it would still be human nature and perversely inconsiderate of its own best interests; that Man is not a rational animal at all but an emotional animal who demands, above all else, freedom (or its illusion). Man, he says, feels oppressed even by simple mathematics; he wants to be free to declare, when he chooses, that twice two is five.Determinism, he observes, relieves Man of the burden of guilt; Man, he implies, cannot live without it. Implied but never stated (though apparently it was stated in the original text and removed by Russian censors) is that only through faith in Christ can this paradox be overcome.The second part consists, basically, of two sequences of events.In the first, the narrator decides to insult an officer by bumping into him on the street, and eventually does, to no effect.In the second, he invites himself to a party of farewell for a man he doesn't like, gets drunk and behaves badly, berates a prostitute, and makes an ass of himself in front of his servant.Really, at the level of plot, that's about it. It doesn't so much end as is cut off, first by the narrator's claim that he will write no more, then by a fictitious editor's claim that he did, indeed, write more, but that there's no point in continuing.Fortunately, there's a great deal that _isn't_ at the level of plot: deep and detailed analysis of Russian society of the nineteenth century ... which turns out, really, to be analysis not of society, but of the narrator himself, whom we quickly realize is not a reliable or objective speaker. In fact, _Notes_ is a portrait, a portrait of a thoroughly unpleasant and despicable human being; who is, nonetheless, a human being and not some kind of metaphorical cockroach. Even as the narrator demands our despite, Dostoevsky invites us to love him as a perversely damaged image of Christ.

I have loved the Sacketts since I saw the made-for-TV movie in the 80s. We bought every Sackett book we could at used book stores. Now I have become an eBook reader because it is so much easier on my arthritis, I am gradually replacing all of my beloved paperbacks and hardbacks with eBooks so I will still be able to read them. Any Sackett book will be filled with adventure, excitement, danger, and most certainly, love. .Orin Sackett has travelled to New Orleans to try to find any information about the last trip his father made as a guide in the western lands. Ma was getting on in years and she was worrying on what had happened to him. He never came back from that last trip and Pa was a hard man to kill. They might not find out where he died but Orin knew he had to try. All he had to go on was the name of the man with whom he was to travel, Pierre Bontemps. He tried asking around to see if anyone had known Pierre Bontemps, even though they had left New Orleans on their quest twenty years ago. Suddenly he was being stalked by a beautiful, blond, matahari. Four days later his older brother, William Tell Sackett, rode into town to help him search, but Orin was nowhere to be found!
I can't say enough about these Sacketts and Louis L'Amour. I've enjoyed every word. Every story. Every shootout. And even the beauty of the country. L. L'Amour is not only very talented, but very imaginative. Sometime I'm even nervous just reading. You are going to so enjoy reading about the Sacketts and the country they helped discover and tamed. Enjoy! But except to be late to work whenever you read the night before. You just can't put the book down.
Really enjoyed this book, as I have the others. Meeting other Sacketts, seeing them develop, and sharing their adventures are really worth the time. Reading them in the correct sequence, really helps. Great Book!!!
A more complex story than most of the Louis L'Amour series and very entertaining, involving several other familiar Sacketts and giving more attention to "The tinker" than the few stories he has been in. It starts with intrigue in New Orleans and then winds toward the West with the "bad guys" shadowing every move Tell and Orrin Sackett's little group makes, hoping to kill them like they did their father and make off with the buried treasure his father had searched for 20 years earlier.
This narrative tells a long story about Tell and Orrin Sackett hunting their father, or his grave, in the southern Rockies. The story tends to dwell for long durations on the hunt. Several situations (gun battles, new characters, old friends found) keeps the story moving but at a slower pace than other L`Amour writings. I enjoyed reading it, and I would recommend your reading it also. I guess I am just more impatient than I should have been.
I have the complete collection of the hard bound books of L'Amour, and I've enjoyed reading several times over the years. Now I'm beginning to collect them on my Kindle. His writings are such that they continue to draw you back, and they are much easier to carry on my Kindle. I do wish that Amazon offered the collection in a bundle that is affordable.
Louis L'Amour is a good writer, who's books are predictable and fun to read. If you want unexpected plot twists and bad guys to be heros pick another author.
Chose the rating because has a good plot with a lot of twists and turns. At the same time, the story seemed to carry on a little too long because of those twists and turns. When the end came it seemed a little abrupt. But overall, a good read

This book was required by my teacher for class. Their is a small section for rabbits. It includes restraint, and selected clinical procedures ( intravenous catheterization, bandaging the catheter for fluid adminstration, blood collection from jugular catheter, oral adminstration of liquid medication/tablet, intravenous injection, urine collection, & endotracheal tube intabation). Most of the book is dedicated to the dog & cat. The sections include chapters on restraint, blood collection, injection techniques, placement and care of IV caths, oral adminstration of medications, dermatologic procedures, impression preparations, fine needle aspiration biopsy, ophthalmic procedures, ear care, pedicure, urethral catheterization, rectal exam, anal sac expression and cannulation, enema, skin prep., intubation, gastric lavage, dental prophylaxis, nasopharyngeal procedures, teansteacheal aspiration, centesis, peritoneal cath. & lavage, semen collection and insemination, vaginal exam and speciman collection, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, rapid evaluation of bleeding and clotting disorders. I only gave a 4 because the book has no actual photographs, just illustrations and they are black and white. I work with cats and I think some of the cat restraint techniques are way off. Otherwise the book is great!
Great textbook for those who are just starting out in the veterinary field, especially for handling critters. I found it very helpful for rabbits

very usefull tool for a busy vet, student or even technician.Very clear and simple exposition of the procedures. Anyone, even the most experienced professional, will find something to learn.
This book reveals a good intent that fell slightly short. The authors evidently know their stuff very well and describe many procedures with meticulousness. However, necessary details are missing on ocassion, like where to locate the vessel they recommend to inject. The illustations are satisfactory but sometimes insufficient. One wonders whether photographs could have been better in these cases. I missed some procedures that are common in veterinary clinics today like x-rays and some small surgery techniques that are common in a clinical setting. For examaple, I would have liked to find some pointers on how to operate an x-ray machine. The book is very useful and well worth buying it, but the authors could make it even better if they surveyed the needs of their colleagues before attempting the next edition.
I am a director of a veterinary technology program and this is a required text. It outlines the "how-to-do" of procedures as simple as cephalic venipuncture to complicated procedures such as gastrotomy tube placement. The value of this book lies in the fact that it lists every supply or piece of equipment you will need to perform a procedure and then walks you through it step by step. The illustrations are awesome. This book would be a valuable reference for a practitioner or technician who wants to perform a procedure for the first time or needs a refresher on the procedure.The inclusion of rabbits to this edition is a welcome addition as it outlines procedures likely performed in practice.
I'm a freshman in veterinary medical college. And I go to my seniors' animal hospital every weekend for studying and assitanting them. Before I assitant them, I had to know about treating animals with the right way. Then my seniors gave this book to me. I think this book is very good for Vet.technician. This book is really detailed for every part of the way of treating pets. I am sure that this book will be helpful to you, veterinary technician or a student often doing assistance in hospital just like me. But i am sure it will not help any junior or senior studying veterinary medicine.

I've been drawing for over 20 years with recently having an interest in drawing buildings and structures. I purchased this book thinking it would get me started on doing so, and I was excited when it arrived. It did get me started; however, I'm not thrilled about the instructions. I do like that it doesn't have worded instructions, but as one reviewer mentioned, it jumps from simplicity to complexity in a matter of four "steps." Not to mention, when it comes to the "final" step, it's completely finished! Where did those extra lines come from?! Sometimes it's difficult to make out the lines or dots in the finished products because they're so close together.If I didn't have drawing experience, this would be extremely challenging. I don't know how this is appropriate for an 8 year old but people develop at their own pace.
This is a very basic drawing book, shows drawing lines placement step by step,( with out written words) if you dutifully dislike rulers and measurements (preferring eyeing measurements) This is the book for you! If you desire rulers and measurements of course you may! Each picture ends with a basic sketch out line with some details. If desire more detailing and more elaborate buildings it's simple to mix and match different parts of Lee J. Ames buildings in this book to create your own designed look. If your not familiar with drawing architecture this is a good place to start -(trains your eye to look for the lines in buildings and how they correlate to one another), developing skills to drawing structures from photos or out in the field.
We purchased this for our 9 year old daughter. She immediately drew a likeness of Big Ben, following the step by step instructions. The book is great for anyone, young or old.
I was looking for something a bit more detailed and maybe with suggestions on drawing actual buildings. This book is more better suited for children. For a child looking to draw structures, it is a helpful start.
Great book, good practice for urban sketching which is why I bought it. Love the series.
I used this both as an art teacher and as a reading teacher. Boys love to draw these things. In art, they need to really see and notice detail, and they have to persevere until they get it right. In reading, they have to do the art skills, and follow directions. Since it's non-fiction, it fits in with today's education trends. Kids love to draw whether they're in art class or reading class, and how special is it to be able to use this as a reading teacher? Your male students will love you.

This is an excellent book, covers the entire Delphi 6 product about as well as any single book could. The chapters on the COM related technologies are very helpful. The New Internet features of Delphi 6 are also given in depth treatment. If you do Delphi 6, this book should be within reach at all times.
The book for the age is almost perfect condition and with the CD. Really nice.
Unlike Cantu's Mastering Delphi 6, Delphi Developer's Guide is intended for those who are able to digest the Borland manuals and wish to take their Delphi knowledge even further. Absolutely no fluff here, every page contains interesting and useful info and the book as a whole is full of useful techniques you can use in real-world projects.All aspects of Delphi 6 programming are covered here: from Win32 API calls to threading to CORBA to writing your own VCL components to advanced Delphi databasing topics and more importantly, each is covered in depth.My favorite parts include the section where the author describes in very readable manner how Delphi evolved from the first version to version 6, highlighting the important differences and improvements introduced with each new version.Another is the chapter on threads which explained thread basics very well and went a lot further (more than I was ready for actually). This chapter alone is so densely packed with info that it alone could be worth a third the price of the book!
I am only a third of the way through this huge tome; but my opinion is confirmed. This is the book that Borland should be shipping instead of their Developer's Guide. This covers much of the same information with clearer examples and much better organization. It even has the same cover colors!This book is neither exciting or wonderful. But for intermediate to advanced software instruction it does a more than adequate job.I took away a rating star for getting too densely into some esoteric aspects of Threads and Component creation while skipping over some of the necessary basics. Neither the Borland Developer's Guide, nor this book, have much to say about graphical Form design or development.I would think that many more developers are using Delphi to create user interfaces and displaying database information than create multi-threaded components.The Borland Developer's Guide is very inconsistent. It is obviously written by a committee. Some parts have apparently been revised many times but have never been rewritten (sort of like a lot of corporate code). Some parts are excellent and some parts are terrible. The Devloper's Guide should be sold as a sleep inducer.I love Delphi and have used every version from 1 to 6. I am studying for Borland Certification. But Borland does a lackluster job with documentation and examples. In the on-line help the examples given are usually extremely short and often irrelevant to the task at hand. I suspect that the on-line help and the Developer's Guide are written by the same people.
Simply put, if you want to not only learn Delphi, but learn some professional development tricks that can take you a long time to learn on your own or you want to learn how to be a better Delphi developer, you have to read this book. If you just want to learn Delphi in-and-of-its-own, then the Borland developer's guide is enough.Pacheco, et al have included a lot of important, "real-world" and useable knowledge in this book and I know many people that overlook the breadth of knowledege imparted in its pages.Read this if you want to be more than just a "Delphi" developer.~ Michael Nigohosian, author - "The Secret Path to Contract Programming Riches: An Expert Consultant's Step-by-Step Guide That..."
As I read through the pages in "Delphi 6 Developers Guide", I simply learned more than I expected (about Delphi 6). It compares with other programming languages, it has a CD included which contains All of the examples used in the book, and it covers everything you can do in Delphi 6.Chapter 2 in the book gives you a nice review of the what you need to now to continue the book (I am happy that they included it); The Object Pascal Language.In other words: I love the book, and I always use it as a reference book, if I forget what something is or how to use it. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to become a better Delphi programmer or just to those who want to know Delphi 6 better!Very well written; Easy to understand; Excellent book! Get it!
I have this book. There's not much literature around about Delphi 6 yet, so this is better than nothing. It contains a lot of information, however it appears to have been written in a hurry - it is very poorly put together. I have just been following the WebSnap chapter examples through, and the steps aren't in the correct order, some are repeated, and are not specific. Incorrect component names are referred to etc etc. It's just as well I have some experience and can work it out and see the errors. Definitely not recommended for anyone with little Delphi or Web Application experience.
I have the Developers Guide for D2,D4 and D6. D2 Guide was the most imformative. Since then the books have been only for newbies. For someone writing an application, the book doesn't do anything to help resolve a coding problem. The only help I have gotten from it was the usage of bookmarks. I have jumped into it a number of time, but came out everytime with a zero.
