This is an excellent book, covers the entire Delphi 6 product about as well as any single book could. The chapters on the COM related technologies are very helpful. The New Internet features of Delphi 6 are also given in depth treatment. If you do Delphi 6, this book should be within reach at all times.
The book for the age is almost perfect condition and with the CD. Really nice.
Unlike Cantu's Mastering Delphi 6, Delphi Developer's Guide is intended for those who are able to digest the Borland manuals and wish to take their Delphi knowledge even further. Absolutely no fluff here, every page contains interesting and useful info and the book as a whole is full of useful techniques you can use in real-world projects.All aspects of Delphi 6 programming are covered here: from Win32 API calls to threading to CORBA to writing your own VCL components to advanced Delphi databasing topics and more importantly, each is covered in depth.My favorite parts include the section where the author describes in very readable manner how Delphi evolved from the first version to version 6, highlighting the important differences and improvements introduced with each new version.Another is the chapter on threads which explained thread basics very well and went a lot further (more than I was ready for actually). This chapter alone is so densely packed with info that it alone could be worth a third the price of the book!
I am only a third of the way through this huge tome; but my opinion is confirmed. This is the book that Borland should be shipping instead of their Developer's Guide. This covers much of the same information with clearer examples and much better organization. It even has the same cover colors!This book is neither exciting or wonderful. But for intermediate to advanced software instruction it does a more than adequate job.I took away a rating star for getting too densely into some esoteric aspects of Threads and Component creation while skipping over some of the necessary basics. Neither the Borland Developer's Guide, nor this book, have much to say about graphical Form design or development.I would think that many more developers are using Delphi to create user interfaces and displaying database information than create multi-threaded components.The Borland Developer's Guide is very inconsistent. It is obviously written by a committee. Some parts have apparently been revised many times but have never been rewritten (sort of like a lot of corporate code). Some parts are excellent and some parts are terrible. The Devloper's Guide should be sold as a sleep inducer.I love Delphi and have used every version from 1 to 6. I am studying for Borland Certification. But Borland does a lackluster job with documentation and examples. In the on-line help the examples given are usually extremely short and often irrelevant to the task at hand. I suspect that the on-line help and the Developer's Guide are written by the same people.
Simply put, if you want to not only learn Delphi, but learn some professional development tricks that can take you a long time to learn on your own or you want to learn how to be a better Delphi developer, you have to read this book. If you just want to learn Delphi in-and-of-its-own, then the Borland developer's guide is enough.Pacheco, et al have included a lot of important, "real-world" and useable knowledge in this book and I know many people that overlook the breadth of knowledege imparted in its pages.Read this if you want to be more than just a "Delphi" developer.~ Michael Nigohosian, author - "The Secret Path to Contract Programming Riches: An Expert Consultant's Step-by-Step Guide That..."
As I read through the pages in "Delphi 6 Developers Guide", I simply learned more than I expected (about Delphi 6). It compares with other programming languages, it has a CD included which contains All of the examples used in the book, and it covers everything you can do in Delphi 6.Chapter 2 in the book gives you a nice review of the what you need to now to continue the book (I am happy that they included it); The Object Pascal Language.In other words: I love the book, and I always use it as a reference book, if I forget what something is or how to use it. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to become a better Delphi programmer or just to those who want to know Delphi 6 better!Very well written; Easy to understand; Excellent book! Get it!
I have this book. There's not much literature around about Delphi 6 yet, so this is better than nothing. It contains a lot of information, however it appears to have been written in a hurry - it is very poorly put together. I have just been following the WebSnap chapter examples through, and the steps aren't in the correct order, some are repeated, and are not specific. Incorrect component names are referred to etc etc. It's just as well I have some experience and can work it out and see the errors. Definitely not recommended for anyone with little Delphi or Web Application experience.
I have the Developers Guide for D2,D4 and D6. D2 Guide was the most imformative. Since then the books have been only for newbies. For someone writing an application, the book doesn't do anything to help resolve a coding problem. The only help I have gotten from it was the usage of bookmarks. I have jumped into it a number of time, but came out everytime with a zero.

The framework of this story is fine. Girl with a son has a terrible ex who shakes her down for money. She moves to paradise planet with her sister’s alien in laws and gets a dream job. And no shocker- her brother-in-law is the one for her. But the rest of the book is tedious fights, stubbornly refusing to sleep with her mate, and boring fear that the warlord planet is too dangerous for her son. Hint- when the main characters don’t sleep together until the last 5 pages- just don’t bother. We no longer care. Could have been a zippy little story. It’s just a snooze. Irritated that I paid for this.
The Mahdfel had helped Earth to defeat the Suhlik who were after Earth’s resources. In return, the politicians agreed with them that because the Mahdfel were unable to have female children, Earth must allow every childless, single, healthy woman on Earth to be tested for genetic compatibility for marriage with a Mahdfel warrior. If compatible, the bride would be instantly teleported away to her new mate and the family would be compensated with credits. The women, of course, had no say in the matter.As Rosemary Rovelli and her 7-year-old son drove up to her home, her ex – Michael’s deadbeat father -- was sitting on the porch waiting. She knew he was once again after money, which she didn’t have. Daytime bartending just didn’t bring in much in tips. As usual, he used Michael as a bargaining chip threat to get what he could from her. He wanted her car and in two months would be back for more money – or else he would file for custody. He didn’t want the child, but his rich parents would not want an embarrassing scandal and would make sure he won the lawsuit. Even when she had given him money to sign away his rights, he literally ran off with the money and never signed; so he kept coming back again and again, regardless of how poor and struggling she herself was!Rosemary’s sister, Hazel, had married an alien. Hazel phoned her to invite her off-world to Sangrin to celebrate a sort of alien Christmas with her. She said she wanted to see her nephew, Michael, again too. And since Rosemary just got fired because public transport she now had to take made her late to work again, she had the time to accept Hazel’s offer.When Rosemary finally arrived on the alien planet, she was approached by a very tall, handsome purple alien. He introduced himself as Lorran, brother of Hazel’s husband. Michael had a million questions for him until Rosemary made him stop! She was exhausted and not in the mood for Lorran’s flirting and cheerful outlook. He showed her to her room and again flirted, but this time she laughed. Mene arrived home and scented the woman who was upstairs. But cautious of his mother’s matchmaking, he did not go to meet her.When Rosemary was offered a job by Mene’s mother in their wine business, and living accommodations, she decided to remain on Sangrin. But when the selfish Vince lost his source of income, he took steps to force her back to Earth. She now had to do that or register for the bride program, risking marriage to a stranger somewhere. Mene instead asked her to be his mate. Would she do this? The Mahdfel mated for life, so he could not choose another. But Rosemary did not want a deep relationship due to her previous bad choices. This would completely change her life. Was she ready to do that? Was she willing to let her son be trained as a Mahdfel warrior? And would this be enough to stop Vince from his spitefulness?How can I express how much I loved this story?!! It was funny and so full of love and affection among the Rhew family Rosemary was visiting! They were everything that her Earth acquaintances were not! If I knew how to find a transport, I might try going there myself! Seriously, though, I loved this story line and the wonderful characters that reinforced what family is all about. I highly recommend this one – it’s awesome and well worth investing your time!
I didn’t like Rosemary most of the time. She seemed to get offended so quickly—and not just with the hero. She also had a habit of making stupid choices.I don’t think the plot description accurately describes their relationship. Before they decide to marry, she knows that he does like her or at the very least, that he is attracted to her. She also finds him very attractive.There are some editing mistakes. There are words that should have been removed. Once Rosemary is called Hazel.3 STARS: I liked the first book in this series better. I didn’t hate this book, but I liked the first book enough to give it 5 stars.
I’m about 2/3 of the way through this book and I won’t be finishing it.The heroine is the ridiculous type that so many authors seem to love writing. She’s phenomenally stupid, repressed, causes all of her own problems, isn’t very nice to the hero, high-strung, bordering on emotionally abusive, extreme helicopter parent, etc. Just a real chore to read her. Ruins what could have been a great story.Aside from that, the story drags in places and details are sloppily peppered throughout in no particular order. Ugh.
I do not like Rosemary. She is all of stupid, immature, antagonistic and just mean. It was a good premise had good potential but she just ruined the whole book for me. Wants him, but no sex. Seems to say she fell in to quick with other men but "hey I the guy that helps me out and i want I will refuse to have sex with just cuz I am like that." Even Hazel who apparently had more to keep her leary of men fell in quick with her guy. But this one is just an idiot. It could have been so much better. She is apparently fierce but I saw a feckless, overly fearful, immature woman who come on she gives the whole dang money to him without her lawyers advice to hold off until signing papers and no know but her would have known how much if any she had. She could have given a fourth of the money and done it right. Then does not tell her sister. She acts like a kid.
Out of money, without a car, out of a job, harassed by her ‘baby-daddy,’ Rosemary needs a break. Her sister, Hazel, comes through with tickets to Sangrin for a visit. She and her son Michael are on their way to a super adventure! Rosemary’s baggage from the past continues to color her outlook and creates trouble in her budding relationships. She has a strong spirit, a good heart, and a loving nature. She will tackle anything/anyone who endangers her son. I got a big kick out of the creative words Rosemary uses instead of swear words. Such a good mom!Mene is an admirable Mahdfel warrior with a difficult job and an interfering mom. He takes Michael under his wing and gives him some badly needed male influence. I thoroughly enjoy Mene’s subtle (mostly) courtship of Rosemary. Their mating ‘dance’ is unrivaled entertainment.I love it!
I found this story to be frustrating and a bit slow. I wanted to smack Rosemary and Mene into moving things along. Nothing that steamy until greater than 90% into book. Liked others better

I've recently come back to doing yoga. I'm a 68 yr old grandma. I enjoyed yoga when I was a new Mom - 40 years ago, but, sad to say, I stopped doing it, got a job sitting all day as a bookkeeper, and gained quite a bit of weight. UGH. I recently retired from my job, and decided I wanted to do yoga again because I remember how good I felt when I did it. I rented (and then purchased) a couple of Peggy's DVD's, and I'm very happy with them. However, there is a bit of a downside to using DVD's. If you want to stay in the pose for a longer period of time, you have to grab the DVD remote and stop the video. This book contains MANY of the poses that Peggy and her team are demonstrating on her videos, including modified poses done with a chair. Obviously, I cannot do them all, but it gives me something to strive for. I have lower back disc herniation, causing sciatica, but I am confident that doing yoga will help to gently stretch my muscles again. I'm also confident that yoga will increase my sense of balance. I recommend borrowing this book from your local library, if possible, which is what I did, in order to preview it to determine if this will meet your needs.
I am a relatively new yoga teacher and I have been looking for information about dealing with various levels of ability and physical challenges I encounter in my classes. This is a very readable and down-to-earth guide; informative, simple, and easy to understand, whether you are a student or a teacher. I especially appreciate the modifications, the benefits and cautions regarding specific problems, and the chair yoga information. There are photographs of the various poses - not photos of picture-perfect models doing picture-perfect poses, but of real people of every age and description demonstrating full poses as well as modified poses. This may not be the most detailed book on the subject -- which is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of five. I'm sure as I progress as a teacher I will want to delve deeper into the subtler aspects. Still, at this stage,I find it very valuable.
I recently took a workshop with Peggy Cappy and as soon as I got home I ordered her book. Meeting her and working with her in person was inspiring and has me excited about sharing yoga with different populations.As a yoga teacher going back to school for physical therapy, I am interested in incorporating yoga into therapy. This book offers variations and modifications to poses that make them accessible to people of all ages with all abilities. The photos and descriptions are helpful in building my classes and demonstrate that yoga really is for all of us!This book should be on every yoga teachers bookshelf so we can all be empowered to share yoga with all populations!
Great book. It has a nice variety of postures and stretches. Instructions are easy to follow. Great for folks over 50. I love that it gives modified versions of stretches using a chair. I wish they had this book in DVD form.

Bought this to go with her DVD "Yoga for the Rest of Us." I have severe Arthritis in many joints and I can't do all of the exercises but the ones I can do, really help my joint pain and there slow and she explains them well. If you want to try Yoga to improve flexibility this is a good place to start.
This is an absolutely extraordinary treatment of gentle yoga. Peggy has demonstrated, time and again, that regardless of age, gender, or infirmity, anyone can do yoga and derive remarkable benefits. She is one of the great instructors of our time, and her heartfelt regard for her students is exceptional. I highly recommend her DVDs and CDs, as well.
Easy to follow, all poses and stretches are clear. Enjoying the meditation instructions. Had a nice low b.p. reading, so its helpful.
